A Chinese Internet Play with a Defensive Twist

Are you looking to add a little Chinese Internet flavor to your investment diet, but worried about getting a case of indigestion? Look no further than shares of CDC (Nasdaq: CHINA), one of my favorite China plays. Don't let the name fool you; CDC isn't some dowdy company engaged in the manufacturing of widgets that went out of style in your grandfather's day. Quite the opposite, in fact. The company, formerly known as China.com, is a hybrid play that offers investors exposure to two red-hot sectors of the Chinese market -- the market for wireless value-added services (i.e. ringtones, text messaging, etc.) and the "traditional" Chinese Internet market (through its China.com Portal business and CDC Games). Not only that, CDC also offers a fair bit of downside protection in the form of its newly expanded global enterprise software business.

Super Snap: Super Bowl Sponsors

Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison and Brian Urlacher won't be the only big names involved in Super Bowl XLI.

Before, during and after the game on Feb. 4, sponsors will put their names and brands on a range of events, contests and prizes, looking to draw more attention from fans.

PepsiCo Inc. may be the busiest sponsor. The soft drink maker will lend its name to the halftime show and a series of concerts the night before the game. Diet Pepsi, the league's official soft drink, also sponsors the Rookie of the Year award, which will be presented Thursday afternoon.

In its Super Can contest, PepsiCo is also offering lifetime Super Bowl tickets and a $100,000 prize.

Home Depot Inc. will sponsor a theme park next to Dolphin Stadium. The NFL Experience Built by Home Depot will include games, entertainment, football clinics, autographs and a football card show.

It's Women's Heart Health Day

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States. As estrogen levels drop with menopause, women no longer have the same protection estrogen gives them from heart disease and high blood pressure. As a result, women's heart-disease risks parallel those of men.

However, men and women do not display the same signs of heart disease. Women often first experience angina - chest pain or discomfort that occurs when your heart muscle does not get enough blood. Additional symptoms can include unexplained heartburn, extreme fatigue, nausea, shortness of breath and reoccurring pain.

If you haven't done so already, start protecting yourself today by making heart-healthy choices:

Eat a variety of colorful fruit and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat and fat-free dairy foods, fatty fish, legumes and other lean protein sources.
